What is the name of the process when a pollen tube is formed down to a female egg in a flower?
The process is germination(yes the word germination is also used when a seed sprouts in the soil).
In a pollen grain, there were two cells, the generative cell and the tube cell. When the pollen grain lands on the pistil of a compatible flower, the generative cell undergoes mitosis to form two sperm cells while the tube cell germinates and forms the pollen tube down to the female egg.

Reply:hehe, not a pistil- that's the actual part of the plant. I am not sure I have ever come across that term other than referring to it as part of the fertilization process. I suppose that since we would possibly call sexual intercourse "part of the process" this still counts, just slightly removed. My guess is that Harper was referring to the Mimosa tree that has sweet flowers. But everyone was kind of right, read on for more information than you wanted. :)
The photo that foolnomore linked to is that of a mimosa tree: Albizia julibrissin (Silk Tree). It has fragrant pink flowers. Planted as a landscape tree. It's leaves close at night. The tree is usually called Mimosa in the United States, which is misleading because, although once included in Mimosa and related to it, it is no longer classified in that genus. (To add to the confusion, several species of Acacia, notably Acacia baileyana and Acacia dealbata, are also known as "mimosa", especially in floristry).

I can name tulip, sunflower, lily, iris, lotus, rose, violet, and that's about it. I'm not good with flowers. I'm just curious.
