I already named one baby Lily and we would like to name the rest flowers.
Names I love:
Alyssa (alyssum)
Chloe (blooming plant)
Heather
Rose
Violet
Names I'm considering:
Dahlia
Linnaea (Lah-nay-uh)-it's a Swedish flower
Hana- Japanese flower
Peri- (periwinkle)
Zinnia
Camellia-means the flower
Names I won't use because someone in my family already is using them:
Daisy, Jasmin, Ivy, Blossom
Out there names that I think I like:
Peony
Lavey (Lavender)
Azalea
What do you think about each name? Honest opinions! I really would like to name my daughters these names and I would like a good opinion on EACH name. Thanks!
Which of these flower names are too out there to name a baby girl?
Alyssa is ok, I think, but not my favorite. If you want an obvious floral reference, though, I don't think it's the best, as it's not usually associated with flowers.
I like Chloe, but again, it's not usually thought of as a "flower" name, per se. I think it's a very sweet and classic name, though.
Heather is all right. I'm not personally too fond of it, but it's perfectly respectable, and ages well.
Rose, as a first name, is a nice choice. In the middle spot, however, it's become overused and predictable. As a first name, I like it, though :)
I really love Violet. It's spunky and sweet and classic. Very fun :)
I think Dahlia is definitely very reasonable. Not too out there, very peaceful (if you can call a name that).
Linnaea I'd spell Linnea, as it's easier as far as spelling/pronounciation go. Otherwise, I love it. It's underused, but it's so pretty, and ages well too :)
I do like Hana, but my concern is that it would be mistaken for Hannah, and pronounced that way. I have an uncommon name, and it gets a bit irritating when people misspell and mispronounce my name. Otherwise, Hana is refreshing and lovely :)
I think Peri/Periwinkle is a bit too far out there- I wouldn't use it. It would be a bit juvenile when she's older, and doesn't age well.
Zinnia is a bit too flamboyant for my taste- a little too bold. Very memorable, but I don't think I'd use it. Altogether, it's not bad though, just different. If that suits you, go for it!
Camellia I do like- it's a change from Camille/a, and ages gracefully.
Peony is not something I'd use- I think it's a bit too wild for me, and I certainly wouldn't like to be named Peony myself, so I wouldn't give it to a child. If you like it a lot, it might be ok in the middle spot, though.
As for Lavender, it's not bad, but I wouldn't use Lavey. As a nickname, perhaps, but definitely not as a given name.
I'm not quite sure if I like Azalea or not. I think it's an interesting name, and could possibly even venture out to say it's quite pretty. Very unusual, definitely, but I don't think I'd use it. But like Zinnia, if it suits you/your daughter, use it :)
I think my favorites on your list are Linnea and Hana. Both are unusual but lovely.
Good luck!

Reply:Names I love:
Alyssa (alyssum)- eh...not my favortie.
Chloe (blooming plant)- very cute and girly. love it.
Heather - kinda dated.
Rose- maybe for a middle name
Violet- same as rose
Names I'm considering:
Dahlia-not too bad.
Linnaea (Lah-nay-uh)-it's a Swedish flower- not as cute as lily.
Hana- Japanese flower- like the spelling of it.
Peri- (periwinkle)- perry is a boy's name.
Zinnia- trying too hard.
Camellia-means the flower- very cute.
Out there names that I think I like:
these are just trying too hard....
Peony-no
Lavey (Lavender)-no
Azalea-no
Reply:I wouldn't use Peri (sounds like a boy), Zinnia, Camellia, Peony, Azalea (they don't sound like names) and I would DEFINATELY not use Lavey as it sounds like you are talking about the toilet (lavatory).
Some other flowers/plants are Lily, Iris, Anthea, Ayanna, Aiyanna, Beth, Indigo, Bryony, Poppy, Pepper, Fern, Willow, Rowan, Holly, Amara, Amisi, Hazel, Calla, Daphne, Jacinta, Laelia, Maylea, Linden, Zahra, Yasmin, Rhoslyn, Rosemary, Flora, Betony, Ash, Ayla, Fleur, Ginger, Juniper and Olive.
My favourites are Lily, Rose, Aiyanna, Hana, Jasmin, Ayla, Daphne, Violet, Heather and Holly. They're all really pretty.
Reply:I like Alyssa, but it is too common.
Love Chloe.
Heather is nice, but quite common and a little outdated.
Rose is too common.
Violet is beautiful.
Love Dahlia.
Linnaea is gorgeous, but the spelling is a little tricky.
I like Hana, but it is popular.
Peri and Zinnia are both very pretty and original.
Camelia is beautiful.
Don't care for Peony or Lavey.
Azalea is very pretty.
I think my favorites are Violet, Dahlia, Camelia and Azelea.
Reply:I LOVE Alyssa, Chloe, Violet, Linnaea, and Azalea. I think my favourite is actually Azalea. It's beautiful and unique.
Rose is overused. I don't think of a flower when I see a Heather. Dahlia is a weird name. Hana will get misspelled as Hannah a lot. Peri by itself looks dumb. Zinnia and Camellia are okay, but I would never consider them.
Lavey is a dumb name. Peony looks like Pony.
Reply:I like Alyssa, Chloe, Heather, Rose, and Violet...this all are beautiful names for girls...
I like Linnaea is very cute even Linnae
Hana does that sound like "Hannah"? if so, I like that
Perri is a pretty name for either boy (Perry) or Perri for a girl
Zinnia is ok
Camellia I like and nickname Cami
Azalea is cute but sounds old
Peony I think she would get picked on in school (Pee on me)
Lavey sounds like a nickname...
I have a niece named Carnation.... what about Asteryth?
Reply:I love the name Chloe! Super trendy right now, and I don't see it going out of style any time soon. Heather and Lily sound cute together, but Dahlia is adorable and much more obvious as a flower name than Heather is.
I also really like Peri. That's so creative; no one else would have that name. Good luck!
Reply:I don't really like Linnaea, it's pretty out there.
I love Dahlia (I know a girl with that name), Zinnia (also know a girl with that name), Chloe...
What about Calla? Then you would have Calla and Lily, how cute? It's unique, and it's still a flower!
Reply:I LOVE Azelea. That one's gorgeous! =] Peony sorry it's really easy for kids to make fun of: Pee on me! lol Zinnia is cool and unique. Peri I don't like so much. All the others are okay but Azalea is most prettiest =]
Reply:I really like Violet, Chloe, Alyssa and Linnaea.
The ones I tought where too weird are Peony and Azalea...they don't really sound like flower names.
Reply:I like: Alyssa
Chloe
Heather
Rose
Linnaea
the others are a little too "out there" for me, or they don't sound very pretty IMO.
Reply:I absoutely love Azalea since its different and really pretty I think alyssa chloe and heather are too common and the rest I'm just not that fond of azalea is great answer my baby name question if you like
Reply:Linnaea is a beautiful name, have not ever met anyone by that name either, very unique
Reply:I like them all none of them are too out there. But Alyssa, Chloe, Heather %26amp; Rose are becoming very common.
