outer edge, then "b" then "c" then "d" and it starts back over at "a" until there is finally an "a" in the center.. It is from the Leisure Arts series and the book is "our best baby afghans"- thanks for your help
The pattern name of the afghan is flower garland and it looks it is a large hexagon with "A" all aound the out
