I think you may be thinking of a tulip, or buttercup. There are quite a few yellow flowers, and quite a few that are bowl shaped and have things protruding from them. Maybe if there was a picture I could help more. :) Either way I hope that helped.

It would help if you had a picture or a better description. Like when it grows - is it a bulb? - where you've seen it.....etc.
