Actually this phrase has been greatly corrupted over the years. The original phrase came from the early 1700s as "up a day". It was then, as it is today, a nonsensical expression of the same meaning.


By the mid 1800s the day part was pretty much changed to daisy as the expression "up a daisy" and then to its various versions today "oops a daisy" "upsa-daisy" "upsy-daisy".....

Why do we say "oops a daisy" and not the name of any other flower?

It is the Lantan species. Lantana camera. Grows wild and also used as hedge plant in gardens.





The flower is a whole group of flowers arranged on the disc and the flowes start opening from the periphery and move towards the centre.





The flower on day it opens is yellow in colour and the colour changes to pink or red on day 2.


It remains on the flower head for 4-8 days and hence you will see pink and yellow flowers in the flowerdisc.





It is also available in single colours like white, yellow only. yellowish white, purple. red only and saffron color.


The plant has a strong aromatic odour.

Hmmmm...hard to tell as they Echinacea and Rudbeckia can look similar.





If you can go up to the flower, feel the center. If it feels sharp like a "cone" then it's probably a coneflower (Echinacea). Here is a great link that shows the stems, flower and foliage up close of each. Take a look and perhaps you can compare with the original plant.

Reply:At first look I thought Black eyed Susans too but after looking closer I'm leaning toward the cone flower. My black eyed susans don't have the drooping petels. And we have the yellow coneflower growing on our roadways here in Missouri and there are purple and yellow ones. Their petels seem to be a bit longer than yours and droop somewhat more.

How can i print a name on a flower petal?

if you print from the computer, you could tape the petal on the sheet of paper, put in the printer and make sure whatever your writing is in the same place as the petal so that its gonna print out on it.


you could also "stamp" it on there. all you need to do is write the name on a piece of pater, then turn it over and put where it says the name on the petal, put a light sheet over it and iron it. The heat will move the ink from the paper to the petal.

I think there are different types of vinca, some are also called periwinkle and are more of a groundcover with purple flowers, and then there are types sold as annual flowers and are in more colors, pinks, whites, etc, and some have that strip down the petal like in the picture. All vinca have 5 petal flowers.

Reply:i'm really not sure, it looks like a wild daisy to me, it doesn't seem like something you buy at the nursery, or something you have to plant from seed, it looks on the wild side to me.





but, i couldn't really be sure. you also ask if this is a nice picture, i think it is, i like the exposure, the only thing i would have changed was the focus, i would have tried to get it all in focus, or the front part of the plant, which stand out in the picture.





put other than where you chose to focus, i think it's a really nice picture, but next time just wait for the sun to come out a little more, so you get nice colors in the foreground and in the background, overall, i'd give it a 8/10, nice picture.

I've artificial (silk) plants in my home that look very real. Don't have have a very skilled "green thumb." I take my silk plants / flowers out on patio few times a year and hose them down, let dry, then place them back in house. I "save" plants by leaving them to others with skilled "green thumb".

Furthermore, the flower lifespan is only 5-7 days. Also, the current population distributions are fragmented due to habitat destruction. So, successful reproduction relies on the unlikely event that a male and female would bloom during the same 5-7 days and that a fly could carry pollen between the often widely separated populations.

I'm pretty sure it winter jasmine or Latin: Jasminum nudiflorum It鈥檚 the earliest shrub to bloom in the garden in our climate. Blossoms are scattered from January 鈥榯il March with peak bloom in February. The Chinese name is "Yingchunhua," or the Welcoming Spring Flower, an apt name for this early bloomer.





Winter jasmine is a little mounded plant that grows a couple feet tall with green, arching stems that cascade over walls and embankments, creating a mounded, sprawling form when allowed to grow unimpeded. It has small, lustrous, trifoliate leaves that fall with the first frost. Though deciduous, the green stems give it an evergreen appearance.

Reply:Yes I believe it is a Forsythia. Never prune it in the winter or before it flowers because you wont get any flowers that year. Always prune flowering shrubs between 1-3 weeks after flowering. ^^

Reply:That looks like the forsythia bush. They bloom in the spring! Easy to grow but need to be pruned right after blooming as they can get "leggy." They don't have much of a fragrance but are showy. :)
