It appears to be Latin, and has something to do with the shape of a musical instrument (lyre). I've done a few Google searches, but I'm not totally sure.
What does the word "Lyrata" mean? I know it's the latter part of a lot of flower names.?
Yep, the lyre. "Lyrate" means "having or suggesting the shape of a lyre."
I can see that in flowers like those a Christmas cactus makes, and others.
Have you looked at lyres?
I can't find any suffix "-lyrata," and it just looks like a female form of lyrate to me.
